INTESOL 2018
Today is a special day for ENL/ESL teachers in Indiana because today is the 2018 INTESOL conference.
I've been able to watch a number of informative sessions on teaching a unit over Human Rights, information gap games for task-based learning, and scaffolding complex texts.
Here is a repository of valuable resources from the presentations. While this might not mean a lot to you now, I can help expand upon these resources later. In a way, that link is for me to help you.
One resource in particular will be a focal point to a professional development presentation that I will be giving next week. It's a top 10 list of advice for general education teachers. As a preview, here is a list of tips that I will be discussing!
10) Greet the students!
9) Consider seating.
8) Use your objectives.
7) Write the words down.
6) Slow down.
5) Check for understanding.
4) Let them speak their own language!
3) Model it!
2) Communicate with families.
1) Ask for help.
Seriously. Ask me for anything. I will try to help. Silence isn't golden; it is acquiescence!
